View Full Version : RASPs for 2012 WGC UVALDE

August 5th 12, 05:22 PM
We have a couple of Dr. Jack RASPs running during the WGC at UVALDE.

This one has 4km resolution, English units, "variable" blipmap color scheme. There are soundings forecasts for a number of representative locations in the task area.

This one is being run by Bart Klusek. It is also 4km resolution but is in metric units with a "fixed" blipmap color scheme.

It looks like contest Day 1 should be very good day, with a potential seabreeze front intruding late in the day, along with more moisture in the atmosphere than what they've had during the practice week.

I have been archiving the RASPs for the WGC starting with day 1 on
Sunday, Aug. 5.
There is a satellite loop for each day and link to a pilot's report
and task map for each day.
There is one page for each day. You can retrieve them by using the
pattern in the URL similar to this one for the first day.

http://alcald.homelinux.org/RASP/UVALDE/2012_08_05/RASPtable.html

Substitute the date you want in the URL for other days. Aug 5 - Aug 8
are available at this time.

Today's weather looks interesting, with a forecast line of
Thunderstorms-OD from Del Rio - Uvalde - San Antonio
with an outflow boundary arriving with gusts about 1700 or so. This is
pretty clearly shown on the RASPs from
the boundary layer up/down (convergence) and the surface wind
blipmaps. It will be interesting to see how
close it comes to what actually happens.

Current peek at the NWS radar for the area does indeed show a line of
storms running along a line west from San Antonio. Another line is
crossing I-10 behind that. 18M and Open classes look like they're well
south at the moment, but 15M looks like it has to contend with the storms,
according to the spot tracker page!

it looks like a majority of they 15 meter class got stuck behind the line and had to wait a while to find a way through. The good news is that John Seaborn (A8) seems to have gotten through it ahead of the gaggle and is now way out in front. Go John Go!
